The "Spa Samui" Method
The Thai colon cleansing
programme, in common with most
others, focuses on eliminating toxins from the body, and
stimulating and supporting the elimination organs.
During the cleanse, food intake is restricted which encourages the
body to search out pockets of toxins in the tissues and either use
them as food or excrete them; and colon cleansing via colemas helps to
eliminate the extra toxins passed to the colon by flushing it
out.
The 7-day programme consists of the following:
1. No solid food. This is not as tough as it sounds. Five times a
day you are handed a drink consisting of psyllium husks, clay, a little fruit juice and
water. You follow this immediately with another glass of water.
This really fills you up. Additionally, you are permitted a
glass of carrot juice, a coconut water (or milk), a "liver
flush" drink and a "broth" (very thin soup) daily. Most people
do not find hunger anything of a problem because of all these
"health drinks".
2. A colon cleansing "colema"
twice a day. This helps to eliminate toxins from the colon. This
reduces any side effects you might experience from colon cleansing
- such as headaches or dizziness - as well as helping you to
eliminate any rubbish which might be lining your colon. This is
sometimes called "mucoid plaque".
The colon cleansing colema is carried out by
resting a purpose-made "colema board" between a toilet and a stool.
A large bucket of water is placed 3-4 feet above the level of the
board and a tube connects the bucket to a nozzle located in the
board itself. The person who is cleansing the colon lies on the
board and wiggles down, inserting a few inches of a sterilised
tube-tip into the end of the rectum. The flow of water is
started and it flows slowly into the colon under
gravity.
When the need to expel is felt,
this is easily done without interrupting the flow. The expelled
water and waste matter passes into the toilet.
This feels a little odd
initially, but it is so slow and gentle that you get used to it
quite quickly. Especially when doing it once or twice a day!
When the bucket is empty - after about half an hour - you can
use a water hose alongside the toilet is used to clean the
area down. You can then shower, and that is the end of the
process - colon cleansing achieved!
3. Herbal capsules 5 times a day. These colon cleansing
capsules are provided by the
resort and are of two types. The first type are thought to help to
release any of the "mucoid plaque" which may be stuck to the inner
surface of the large or small intestines, facilitating the
colon cleansing. This
"plaque", according to Anderson, whose methods the resort
follows (Anderson's method is outlined below), can line the
whole length of the small and large intestine, and is caused
mainly by the excessive acid levels of most people's diet.

The second type of capsules are
herbal nutrition tablets to help build up the nutrient levels of
the body.
After the seven days programme, it takes two days to prepare your
body to eat cooked food again. This step should not be ignored. So,
realistically, the full programme is nine days before you are back
to a normal diet. It is best to have a few days to relax after
the colon cleansing, so a
minimum of 12-13 days is recommended altogether.
The resort does offer a shorter three and a half day fast, but the
results will not be as good. However, if you have only a week at
your disposal, this will be the only choice for you and your
colon cleansing will be shorter and less thorough.
Additional facilities are offered
at the resort, such as Thai massage. There are always six or seven
masseurs and masseuses available on a first-come-first-served
basis. The cost is about £5 ($7.50) per hour. There are also Yoga
and Chi Gung, which were being offered daily for a few pounds a
session.
